Figurative Drawing Lesson Beginners
36
I believe that anyone can learn to draw with the right information. I have a four-part system to teach anyone who is truly motivated to draw. All you need is a HB pencil and a few pieces of paper and the drive to follow through on my plan and you will be able to create a likeness that eventually will include form, texture, shadow and spatial composition. For any age. A session is 30 minutes long. You can have back-to-back sessions to form a longer 'class' if you are not too tired. Focusing can be tiring at the beginning just like any exercise. Your stamina will improve with time and practice. I can also give you homework if you request it. I will teach you how to draw a human figure, or an animal if you prefer. I can also guide you through drawing Still Lifes where you will take some objects from around your house and set up a display and even lighting if you have clip-on lights (you can buy one or two at a Home Depot or IKEA if you want to progress in Shadow rendering at some point in the sessions). What you learn to draw is completely up to you.
Training & Qualifications
I have been an artist for 50 years. I began drawing as a child, and painting with oils at around 7 years old. My grandmother was a portrait painter and she started me off on shirt cardboards. I watched her struggle with tricks of the trade that most artists use, and by the time I was 12 I had determined that I was going to teach myself to draw freehand and with no tricks. No grids, no projectors, no tracing...I wanted to learn to really draw. And I succeeded. It was a matter of figuring out techniques and how to focus. How to really see. How to circumvent the mind telling us what we should see, or what we want to see, and find what is really in front of us. I later used my knowledge to help various people on their journey of self-discovery with a pencil and truly enjoyed putting them on the path to free-hand drawing. I would love to help you too!
