Stop the Bleed

No matter how rapid the arrival of professional emergency responders, bystanders will always be first on the scene. A person who is bleeding rapidly could die within mere minutes, so it is important to recognize and stop severe bleeding as soon as possible. We will give you hands-on training in simple life-saving techniques.
This course will teach you how to recognize when bleeding is severe. You will learn how to stop life-threatening blood loss by applying direct pressure. You will learn how and where to place a tourniquet, to stop bleeding that cannot be controlled by direct pressure. We will discuss improvising a tourniquet. You will learn about hemostatic dressings and when it is appropriate to packing a wound.
This free course lasts 1.5 hours and is approved for Pennsylvania EMS Continuing Education.
Training & Qualifications
I've been an EMT since 2009. I've volunteered, worked in commercial EMS, and now am employed by a hospital-based system. I was certified as an EMS Instructor in 2014 and I have taught Stop the Bleed numerous times.
