Help recovering from verbal abuse
40
I can help you learn to recognize verbal and emotional abuse, which often go hand in hand. I can recommend books to read that have helped me a lot, and provide support while you decide what steps you want to take next in your recovery. I will try to help you see what you can to change in yourself to make you less vulnerable to this kind of attack. I might be able to help you see relationships, boundaries and even communication itself differently, allowing you to break free of the cycle that makes verbal and emotional abuse possible.
Most people spend at least half an hour just telling me what's going on in their lives that led them to need support. Expect that we'll spend around half an hour on book suggestions and starting on the basics. Further sessions can be negotiated for more in depth help.
Training & Qualifications
I am a survivor of a long and destructive verbally and emotionally abusive relationship. My upbringing gave me a poor understanding of open communication and of a woman's right to refuse any interaction, even when people are "nice." I've read countless books and articles on healthy communication, and while I won't say I'm a completely different person than I was 20 to 30 years ago, I am absolutely more secure in myself and absolutely unwilling to tolerate unhealthy communication in my life. I enjoy helping other people find that strength in themselves and learning how to be happy within themselves when other people are trying to manipulate them away from it.
Availability & Preferences
I have some flexibility in my schedulle depending on how we choose to communicate. I'm second shift, and can usually be available via Yahoo or Gmail most of the time I'm awake, and sometimes via phone.
