I will give you some basic advice as to how to approach the Japanese Language--from a "Western" point of view.
Many people consider the Japanese language to be difficult to learn. I've lived in Japan, and I've learned enough Japanese to appreciate it's beauty and order. It is a rich language, full of nuance. It also has fewer "irregularities" than many "Western" languages. Hence, with a short amount of guidance, anyone who feels daunted with the task of learning Japanese can adopt a mindset that allows the language to fall into place more easily. I'll provide an overview of the ordered nature of the language, and how to use that to gain ground on conversational basics very quickly. I will recommend certain books that will help provide this point of view. I will also answer any specific questions you have about grammar and structure. I'll be happy to practice conversation with you, and to dissect anything new or confusing. You can do this!
