I'm white, male, grew up middle class and middle aged but I'm also gay, disabled. I've inhabited a lot of diverse & marginal groups so I've witnessed a lot of intercultural harmony & conflict from the inside, outside & as a facilitator.
NB I am a child of the hippie feminism and the diversity debates of the 80s. My perspectives are my own and hopefully will be useful but are not in lock step with the social justice debates of the current zeitgeist.
Training & Qualifications
I grew up in a big city, lived in very diverse neighborhoods & regions, have learned half a dozen languages, had many monolingual housemates & lovers from other cultures & countries. I've travelled to a dozen countries. I have consistently been in cultural environments where I was the only person of my race, gender, sexuality, ability, class, age or the only visible/out one although in most situations there are various types of closeting & invisibility.
I started facilitating anti-racism workshops in 1988. Taught ESL and gave cultural orientation to refugees for 11 years.
