Bird Identification

Have a mystery bird hanging around? Send me a picture and I'll try to ID it. If you don't have a picture you can try a description - I've had good luck identifying commonly seen birds this way. Please include general locality (i.e. state) and, if you're sending a description, a bit about the area the bird was found in. I'll also send a bit about its natural history and any interesting behavior.
Training & Qualifications
I'm a biologist by trade and a birder at heart and have been identifying birds around the Houston area for the last 3 years. My masters research was on woodpecker behavior. If you're not from Houston don't worry - a lot of species in the eastern US are pretty widespread. I'm not as familiar with western birds, but love a challenge. If I can't ID it there's no charge.
