There are so many social situations that happen in our day to day life and for the most part, we interact with them without giving a second thought. Shaking a hand when greeting a new person, saying thank you when receiving an item, not burping in public, washing our hands after using the restroom, etc. For some however, these basic social skills are hard to remember. In these instances, a social story comes in very handy
A social story is a short, descriptive story that pertains to a specific social situation. It uses pictures and words typically and will explain the situation, and how to solve it. They are usually 5-20 sentences long depending on the needs of the individual.
I will create a single social story for your given situation or behaviors for kids / adults that need extra reminders and routines to follow.
Training & Qualifications
I was a teacher who specialized in Special Education for 11 years and worked with students that had a wide range of skills.
I started my career by working in a developmental preschool and birth-3 program working with the littles to develop basic life skills. After 4 years, I moved up to an elementary life skills classroom where I worked with students from Kindergarten to 8th grade.
These years of experience have given me ample opportunity to develop social stories for a wide range of situations.
