Some family members and I have recently gotten into steampunk costume and prop design, and it's inspired me to begin crafting a little more seriously. A major difficulty has been how prevalent leather is for this theme. I'm very interested in learning how to make leather in a more ethical, eco-friendly, and authentic-looking way, such as pinatex or waxed cotton. Many alternatives I've seen have either been very poor-looking or exclusively for industrial capabilities. Since I am one person without a factory and I want to use faux leather for high-quality materials, this has proved a roadblock.
